Because Ellis County will be selecting a new judge for the 40th District Court for the first time in a generation, I am grateful for this opportunity to share a little information about myself.

I was raised in a small town where the values of hard work, self-reliance and religious faith were the fabric of our community. I was the first in my family to attend and graduate from college. After graduating from college with honors and being inducted into my university’s hall of fame, I received a scholarship to attend Boston College Law School where I studied with a select group of law students chosen from around the world. I graduated from law school with high honors and received additional training at a Harvard Law School clinical program.

After law school, I started my career with one of Texas’ largest law firms before becoming an in-house attorney and financial controller for an investment firm. I am now a partner in a law firm that represents small businesses and Fortune 500 companies in complex business disputes. I handle everything from multi-million dollar lawsuits to pro bono cases for Ellis County residents of limited means.

My wife, Amanda, and I settled in Ellis County to raise our family of five children in a small-town environment guided by conservative values. We want a safe and prosperous future for our family in Ellis County. I am running for judge of the 40th District Court because we need to raise the bar in our court system. Our district courts in Ellis County rank 253rd out of the 254 Texas counties in terms of the time it takes to get a civil lawsuit through the court system. In criminal matters, inadequate oversight of the probation system resulted in a convicted sex offender fleeing the country, and more than 1,000 probationers committing serious probation violations in the past four years alone. Moreover, a drawn-out jury selection process unnecessarily imposes on the valuable time of prospective jurors. These shortcomings in the system undermine our safety and impose unnecessary burdens on us as citizens and taxpayers.

Please visit my Web site at www.dangusforjudge.com to learn more about me and my plans to raise the bar in our court system. I ask for your support in making the most of our unique opportunity to help chart a new conservative course for a safe and prosperous future for Ellis County.
