7.26 Celebrate Waxahachie

In a time when most cities are facing declining sales tax revenues, CHOOSE Waxahachie! is a campaign launched by the City of Waxahachie to encourage shopping locally.
In late 2009, the City partnered with the Waxahachie Chamber and Waxahachie ISD to help promote how local spending positively impacts our citizens. In an effort to educate residents of Waxahachie about the many facets of our local community that are impacted by the local business climate, 10 reasons why local spending is important were identified.
Those reasons are:
1. It Helps Our Quality of Life (City Services, etc.)
2. It Makes Waxahachie Safer (Police/Fire)
3. Local Businesses Support Our Non-Profits
4. Local Businesses Support Each Other
5. Local Businesses Support Our Children (Education Foundation, etc.)
6. Staying Local is Better for Our Environment
7. Spending Locally Creates more JOBS
8. Successful Local Businesses Make Waxahachie Attractive to New Ones
9. Waxahachie is DELICIOUS (Dining Local)
10. We Have A Downtown Like No Other
Using a mix of local radio spots, newspaper articles, posters, e-mail blasts and social media, residents were educated on how we all enjoy a better quality of life when money is spent locally. In addition to these efforts, a Celebrate Waxahachie event is planned for Thursday, August 5, 2010 from 6-9pm at the Waxahachie Civic Center. This event will be free to the public and help spotlight these 10 reasons.
This event will also allow local businesses to showcase themselves for just $50 per booth. A booth will include one table and tablecloth, and two chairs. All proceeds from booth sales will go to cover the event costs and advertising. Participating businesses are encouraged to hand out flyers, coupons, bounce-back offers or giveaways. The goal of the event is to show citizens how they can enjoy a better quality of life when our local economy is thriving, and to showcase the wonderful business base Waxahachie has to offer.
